First snow of the season + casatiello
Hooray! It's raining dippin' dots!

The snow from earlier today:

D'oh! I almost forgot about the bread I baked this week. This casatiello is the first thing I've made from Peter Reinhart’s The Bread Baker’s Apprentice, and it is frikkin' fantastic. LOVE IT! The fontina cheese that I had leftover from when I made pizza was rotten to the core =( so I used some cheddar cheese instead. Luckily the leftover salami and ham from that pizza was in the freezer, and they were still good. Oh snap (haha), I guess that the pizza was the first thing I've made from his book! I got that recipe online so I didn't know it was his at the time. Anywho:
Besides trying different fillings, I'd like to make a less rich version and change the way that the ingredients are distributed in the bread. I've seen some pictures of more traditional-looking casatiellos, with whole eggs baked into the crust...but I'm not sure if I'd do that.
Baking sure is fun! I can't wait to try out more recipes from his book.
